Frequently asked questions.

  • Thank you so much for reaching out! You will receive an email with paperwork (please let me know if you haven’t as this is not automatic), and I will send you emails any time there are cancellations. These spots are always first-come first-served and can be fairly last minute. The good news is that they are also fairly frequent! If you see a notification about a cancellation, email me right away if the time works for you.

I will notify you as soon as a spot becomes available that suits your preferred schedule and does not work for anyone ahead of you on the waitlist!

  • ake a turn onto Paseo Private and turn right. This will lead you to a parking lot between the buildings, please park on a spot with a V. You do not need to register your vehicle, this is for overnight parking only! I recommend parking as soon as you turn into the lot so that you do not need to walk too far. Once parked, you will need to walk back out to Centerpointe and turn right so that you can come in from the front entrance.

Street parking is also available in front of the house, just make sure to follow regular parking laws.

  • Thank you for choosing GenieUs Communication, I can’t wait to meet you and you little one.

Please bring a few of your child’s favourite toys/games with you if they are shy!

At the start of the session, if your kiddo is shy, I may have you play with them the way you usually do at home. As they get more comfortable I will join in! I usually start by playing with the child and once they are feeling more comfortable in the space I will pause with them and connect with you - their guardian. Depending on your child’s needs I may ask questions from a questionnaire, continue to observe your child’s skills in play, or complete an assessment with your child.

  • Thank you for choosing GenieUs Communication! The first session is a chance for me to get to know you and to assess your baseline. We will complete any assessments required and discuss goals and the plan of action!

  • For such an assessment I always ask clients to bring the following items:

    • clear glass

    • water

    • soft food and spoon (e.g. yogurt, apple sauce)

    • hard food (e.g., cookies, crackers)

I will be looking at the lips, jaw, tongue and how they all function together. I will also observe swallow with water and food. This will involve me looking in the mouth, asking for some funny tongue/lip/jaw movements, taking measurements , and taking pictures and videos to document it all.

  • I do not bill directly to insurance (unless you are going through Blue Cross), but I will provide you with an invoice and receipt that you can submit. Please check your insurance to make sure that speech therapy is covered, it usually is but I do recommend that you check!

  • Each session requires a lot of preparation and then documentation after the session. Therefore, there is space between clients to allow the clinician to complete this work. You will be notified about any truly available spots through cancellation emails.

  • Please send an e-transfer to my email with the date of our session and your / your child's name. This note is very helpful for me!

  • One of the most important parts of my approach to therapy is that we work together. I do not direct everything, rather, we work together - therefore its Genie + us (the clients). I also love that my scope of practice allows me to see such a large variety of clients so I wanted to pick a word that is all-encompassing: communication.
